ADD TO CARTAbout this Workshop
Drawing from Dr. Gabor Maté's groundbreaking work with addiction in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside and his influential book "In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts," this workshop offers a revolutionary perspective on understanding and treating addiction. Rather than viewing addiction as a genetic predisposition or discrete medical condition, we will explore how early childhood experiences and trauma shape both the neurobiology of addiction and the emotional patterns that drive addictive behaviors. Through recognizing the roots of addiction we can develop a compassionate approach towards addiction offering a path to restoration of wholeness and health.
This workshop presents addiction as the result of a complex interplay among personal history, emotional development, neurological development, brain chemistry, and the substances or behaviors that become the focus of addiction. Rather than viewing addiction as a medical condition distinct from the lives it affects, we examine how it emerges from and is inseparable from the life circumstances of those who suffer from it.
What you will learn:
-
Deep understanding of the trauma-addiction connection
-
Practical tools for assessment and intervention
-
Strategies for creating healing-centered environments
-
Comprehensive resource guide for continued learning
